Savour zest(ee) halal gourmet meals at down-to-earth prices

Those smoky flavouring melt-in-your mouth kebabs, perfectly grilled crusty, crunchy exterior with pink, juicy, tender meat of chicken tandoori would pique your appetite for more. And more. Also rolled out are Poutines, Fajitas and Philly Steaks that captivate your senses at the conveniently located Zestee fast food restaurant at Sheppard Ave East, Toronto.

Pizzas – topped with smooth, creamy-textured mozzarellas, kissed with sun-dried tomatoes with its quite intense and concentrated flavour and its sauces that mellows into a warm cloud of heat – are a quick crowd favourite.

Bon vivants could be assured of Zestee’s food. Its gourmet basket holds those meat dishes that are permissible in Islam. Each ingredient that goes into it is 100% halaal. No adulteration. Guaranteed.

Dig into the newly introduced Mexican Fajitas at Zestee or any of the other hidden treasures such as traditional poutine and Bihari kebabs or signature toppings of tandoori chicken on pizzas. The fast food restaurant rolls out international haute cuisine that are not cheap imitations of their authentic versions and yet are priced very reasonably.

Mansoor, a regular here vouches for the freshness and taste which he describes as extraordinary.

This restaurant uses HMA certified products. I am assured of its high quality. My personal fave is kebab. And of course Hyderabadi biryani. These authentic cuisines are a hard-find in Toronto. Period.

Ummm…I guess, the same reasons prompted Nasir bhai to take the plunge. We quiz the chef and proprietor of Zestee who has over 20 years experience satisfying the food craving of thousands of people across the globe:

“Torontonians who choose to eat halaal meat shy away from digging into meat dishes for fear of adulteration. Some sort of  dilemma looms large in their minds while dining out. So there is a great need to have authentic halaal restaurants,” says Nasir  bhai, as he gets back to threading meat strips into skewers to grill on charcoal. Kebabs are best served wrapped in paratha with a twist of lemon juice, pinch of chopped onions and a pinch of chopped parsley.

Signature dishes - Bihari kebabs, Hyderabadi biryani, chicken wings and pizzas  - are the restaurant’s crowd-pullers.

Key to Nasir bhai’s divine food ?  “Sheer magic,” he chuckles. And our personal crystal ball unleashed the magic. The secret lies in marinating the meat. At Zestee, meat is marinated for a good number of 72 hours. Here food is perfect for any occasion – from a quick snack to elaborate meals and everything in between.
